Project Description

CHARM Prison Ministry: Transition Homes for Former Inmates

CHARM Prison Ministry exists to share the hope found only in Jesus Christ with incarcerated men and women and their respective families. The Ministry is built upon forming lasting relationships engaging inmates in prison and bringing recently released offenders into one of eight Transition Homes.

Up to 60 men live in a Christ-centered, communal environment in these Transition Homes where they participate in weekly Bible studies, accountability groups, mentoring, job readiness training, and life skills classes. Through cultivating their spiritual, professional, and emotional maturity, residents are able to begin to rebuild their lives and healthy relationships with their family and community.

While the fruit of the ministry is sweet, there are many challenges in transitional ministry. First, the need for Christ-centered Transition Homes is great and growing each day. The latest report shows that over 10,000 inmates were released into the Greater Houston Area in 2019. Over 1,000 applications are sent to CHARM each year to enter one of the Transition Homes. Second, due to city and county restrictions it is difficult and expensive to maneuver through the approval and permitting process. Gratefully, all eight homes have completed the process but there is need for an additional two homes in the coming months. Third, transition ministry is time consuming and expensive in order to provide not only housing but spiritual, professional, and emotional counseling for each resident.

A donation will allow continued ministry to current residents, accepting new residents into the Transition Homes, and purchasing new homes to allow more residents to be reached.

Goal: Support the CHARM Prison Ministry Transition Ministry by sponsoring the annual expenses for three former inmates, and or make a donation toward the purchase of a transition home.

Cost: Support a former inmate in a CHARM transition home for a full year for $12,000-$15,000 or make a donation to the CHARM Transition Home Purchase Fund,
